Why We Homeschool?

Every homeschooling family is different so its just natural that their reasons for homeschooling vary too. When we pulled our oldest out of ps halfway through his kindergarten year we knew that at home would be a better environment for him. Our journey doesn't begin like some with a rosy and amicable decision. Those few months he attended ps it was dreadful. He actually came home with a black eye that took the school two days to explain! These problems happened all too often. It was terrible and draining and we realized that it would just be best for him to be taught at home.

Over the years my reasons have stayed the same but have evolved as well. We have added more children to our family and our homechool. So recently I went back and asked my self that same question I did years ago, why do we homeschool? Take a look at the list below.

  • I homeschool because I know I am called by HaShem to be a "set apart". At home my children learn to love and follow HaShem's commandments to his people. They learn the original language that our people spoke. Our environment encourages our faith.
  • I homeschool because I know that no system can take the place of my love, care, or concern with my children's all around well being.  There is no one that can or will care for my children like I can. No one will try 10 different ways to teach a concept until my child has the famous aha moment.
  • I homeschool because I know its what is best for our family dynamic. We are a large family with a lot of different personalities. I can imagine what a classroom is like because I live in a small one everyday! The difference is that I can go with the flow and change things up as necessary. If my kids need to learn math facts through song okay lets check out you tube or there is one who love her flashcards we can do that too. We allow them to learn how they learn  using the best resources available to them.
  • I homeschool because I love learning with them and from them. There are invaluable lessons that you can learn from your children like patience and forgiveness. I am always amazed how much of these qualities my kids naturally posess and I am beyond thankful. At times I wonder if they were in a school system that lacks nurture will they learn to suppress these qualities. Academically,  my grammar and math skills have become stronger and I am not huge a fan of science or history but learning with them has piqued my interests.
Here are just a few of the reasons we homeschool. I think its important for every homeschool mom to have her reasons written or typed and put away form grubby little fingers lol  so that when she has those tough days (they will come) she can reflect and remind herself of what is best.
